Joseph D. Porter was born
in Houston, Texas on August 16, 1955, and was admitted to the Texas
bar in 1987. He received a B.B.A. from The University of Texas at
Austin in 1979, and a Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law
in 1987. Mr. Porter is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the
American Association of Petroleum Landmen and is admitted to practice
before all state courts in Texas.
Mr. Porter was an oil and gas landman,
first as an independent landman performing title examination, leasing
and curative throughout Texas, and later in-house, with responsibility
for all prospect acquisitions and generation, deal negotiations, joint
operating agreements, farmouts and other contracts in Texas,
Louisiana, New Mexico, Rocky Mountains and California, and
acquisitions and divestitures. After graduation from law school he
was in a commercial litigation practice in Houston, representing
clients in the courts of Harris and surrounding counties, before
joining Pennzoil Company in 1990. At Pennzoil he worked in the
midstream and downstream areas and was Vice President - Legal of Jiffy
Lube International Inc. and a Director of Q Lube Canada, with
responsibility for litigation, acquisitions, contracts, real estate
and landlord/tenant, franchising, distribution and PMPA, antitrust,
environmental, intellectual property, advertising, product licensing
and sponsorships, and media relations. After leaving Pennzoil in 2004
Mr. Porter worked for the Enron Estate, representing the Estate in
analyzing and enforcing electricity trading contracts, in the
petrochemical industry negotiating and preparing purchase and sale,
barge, ocean vessel and terminal agreements for feedstocks and
finished goods, and represented clients in various real estate and
asset acquisitions. Since 2006 he has represented clients on various
oil and gas exploration and contract issues, producing property
acquisitions and drafting drilling, acquisition and mortgage title
opinions.
